Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity

Being respectful even when we disagree, taking responsibility for our actions, and doing the right thing even when nobody is watching helps all Spartans become successful in school and in life. Basically, it comes down to being good to people, so that is what we encourage throughout our building.

Student Recognition

Recognizing students when they do well is important to our staff, so we have many opportunities to do just that. We have quarterly assemblies to recognize our Pride Card earners and athletes, and we have a concert each semester to hear and honor our musicians. We also have an End of Year Awards Ceremony where teachers recognize many outstanding students. However, we believe in the smaller recognitions too. Sometimes a phone call home goes a long way. Below are some of the many ways students are acknowledged and appreciated by our staff.

Sparta's Elite Requirements

Student must be an 8th grade student currently enrolled at Sproul Junior High School.
Student must have been in attendance at Sproul for at least one semester prior to selection time.
Student must have a Grade Point Average of at least 3.8 (not rounded and based on 4.0 scale) for the entire time at Sproul. (All classes are taken into consideration and are weighted equally.)
Student must have at least a 4.2 (based on 5.0 scale) average for the composite categories of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, and Ambition. The faculty rates all students who have satisfied the academic requirements on the above categories (not rounded).
Student must have none of the categories of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, and Ambition fall below an average of 3.8 (not rounded).
Student must have no major or repetitive discipline referrals.

Spartan Pride Program

Spartan Pride is an academic program in which students can earn leveled cards quarterly that give them special privileges throughout that quarter. Students who reach the requirements are recognized at assemblies. Also, students who earn three levels during the year are invited to go on a special field trip at the end of the school year. See requirements below.

All four levels require the following:

No office referrals
No more than two unexcused tardies
90% attendance rate or better
No D's or F's during the quarter.

Grade Point Average Levels:

Platinum Level: 4.0
Gold Level: 3.7 - 3.9
Black Level: 3.2 - 3.6
White Level: 2.5 - 3.2

Spartan Way Cards

Spartan Way Tickets

Staff members give students Spartan Way Tickets to save up and "shop" our Spartan Way Store. Prizes range from pencils to Spartan gear and even a raffle for a Spartan jersey! Many teachers have classroom prizes like "Front of the Lunch Line" and/or "Listen to Music While You Work" passes. Students can also use their tickets to enter special drawings for gift cards or even fun events like throwing pies at teachers. You never know what our crazy staff will come up with.

Students and Athletes of the Week

Every week, grade level teams sit down and choose a student who has been demonstrating the Spartan Way (Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity). These students are then acknowledged on KSJHS Student News and on the TV Kiosk in the cafeteria.

During the athletic seasons, coaches also choose a student who has been demonstrating the Spartan Way on the court/field/track. These students are also acknowledged on KSJHS Student News and on the TV Kiosk in the cafeteria.
